Chania is often called the most beautiful town in Crete, and its Venetian harbour, lighthouse and pastel waterfront explain why. On the way west we pause in Rethymno, then give you the afternoon to explore Chania's old quarter: the covered market, the leather lane, the former mosque on the quay and quiet courtyards hidden behind the harbour. A comfortable evening drive brings you back to your hotel.

A little history
Chania stands on ancient Kydonia, one of the great cities of Minoan and classical Crete. The Venetians built its harbour and lighthouse, the Ottomans its first mosque on the quay in 1645, and until 1971 it was the capital of Crete, which is why its old town feels so grand.
