Eastern Crete at its most elegant. We begin in Agios Nikolaos, a harbour town wrapped around its own small lake, then continue along the coast to Elounda and its turquoise bay. From the little port of Plaka a short boat ride takes you to Spinalonga, the Venetian fortress island whose remarkable history has inspired books and films. We wait for you on the mainland and bring you back in comfort.

A little history
The Venetians fortified Spinalonga in 1579 to guard the bay of Elounda, and it held out against the Ottomans until 1715, long after the rest of Crete had fallen. From 1903 to 1957 it was a colony for people with leprosy, one of the last in Europe, a story told in the novel 'The Island'.
